Teenage squash sensation Rachael Gibson will go to Alice Springs to compete in the Australian Junior Squash Championships in September.
It will be a busy couple of months for Rachael as she prepares for tournaments being played throughout the country.
The 13-year-old from Mount Annan was runner-up in the under-13 girls' age group at the recent NSW squash titles at Coffs Harbour.
Rachael, who has played squash for 4 years, has also been chosen to play alongside her sister Jessica, 15, in the NSW Combined High Schools under-15 girls' team against other states at a tournament next month in Dubbo.
``I'm looking forward to both events, but it's more exciting to be travelling to Alice Springs because I have never been to the Northern Territory,'' Rachael said.
Rachael's best results have included a victory in the NSW squash titles in the under-11 girls' division in 2008.
Rachael, a Mount Annan High School student, said there were benefits from playing the sport she loved. Although she describes playing squash as being fun, Rachael's will to win is evident when she steps on to the court in tournaments, as her great results prove.
``It's active on the court which keeps me fit,'' Rachael said.
``The travelling is fun because of the new places I get to go to. The people are friendly so I get to socialise.
``Playing squash has made me set goals for the future, but mainly it's fun.''
Rachael is ranked No.1 in NSW and No.5 in Australia in the under-13 girls age group.
She plays most of her squash out of Bankstown Sports Club.
Rachael plays in the ladies' division five pennants and was a member of the team that won the grand final of the autumn competition.
When she returns from the Australian championships she will compete in her club's spring pennant competition.
