Westmead hospital's 100th kidney transplant given to Currans Hill toddler

24 Mar, 2010 10:29 AM
THE Children's Hospital at Westmead has just celebrated a milestone in its history its 100th kidney transplant.

Marcus Browne, 2, from Currans Hill, is pictured with Dr Albert Shun, who performed the operation on him.

Marcus was born with renal dysplasia, a congenital kidney abnormality, but is recovering well after the transplant.

As a major Australian centre for paediatric kidney transplantation, the hospital works closely with the Paediatric Liver Transplantation Unit, Westmead Hospital, and the National Transplant Team.

The head of nephrology, Dr Stephen Alexander, said the 100th successful transplant was hugely significant for staff and patients alike.
