Stair plan disbelief

Hopes that this year' Macarthur station upgrade would include escaltors have been dashed.

Eva Seghabi, of Leumeah, said the project didn't take into

account the elderly or those with

prams or bulky shopping bags.

Eva Seghabi of Leumeah, the project did not take into account the elderly, or those with bulky shopping bags or prams.

"Escalators would allow for easier access to and from the station," she said.

"It will also eliminate the risk of people straining and injuring themselves on the stairs as there are so many to climb at the train stations."

Ms Seghabi said many people including the disabled, the infirm, the elderly as well as parents with prams would benefit from the convenience of an escalator.

"Public transport will become more accessible," she said.

Campbelltown councillor Meg Oates said in order to move people "quickly and efficiently" CityRail should scrap the plan for stairs.

"Everywhere around the world you see escalators at train stations, except for Campbelltown," she said.

Ms Oates said the provision of an escalator would ensure a far more efficient means of moving people on and off the station.
