Scientists eager to have a chat

08 Sep, 2010 12:00 AM
THE Camden Hospital Focus Group is going scientific.

The group that hosts community information sessions is starting a science cafe at Camden Library tomorrow.

Community representative Lorraine Iddon said the cafe was an opportunity for people interested in science to talk face to face with a scientist about a set topic.

"The Camden science cafe will be the second in Australia and we think a first for NSW," Ms Iddon said.

"They work well because rather than a lecture, the community identifies an issue that they would like to find out more about and hosts a question-and-answer session by inviting a scientist who's researching that topic."

Neuroscientist Vaughan Macefield is the inaugural guest.

Professor Macefield will discuss the topic of pain and his research.

To join the science cafe or suggest a future topic, call Lorraine Iddon, 4655 4546 or Ros Birch, 4655 3895.
