School's musical bound to delight

01 Jul, 2009 05:00 AM
The High School Musical films were a worldwide phenomenon and now Troy and Gabriella, Sharpay and Ryan and Chad and Taylor are coming to Elderslie.

The movie that was described as Grease for a younger generation is the subject of Elderslie High School's latest musical performance.

All the high energy dance numbers and fun script will feature in the school's adaptation of the stage production that followed the movie.

``We're lucky because it's set at East High and we have the same letters in our school name so we're using our school logo but changing the colours from the red the featured in the movie to our school colour of yellow,'' said drama teacher Samantha Dennis.

Students from year 9, 10 and 11 star in the leading roles and the entire cast and crew have been hard at work since the script was written in February.

``They've been rehearsing every week and now that it's getting closer we've had extended rehearsals after school,'' Ms Dennis said.

High School Musical runs for three days from July 9 at Elderslie High School. Pre-booked tickets are $15 adults, $10 children or purchase at the door for an extra $5. Details:

4658 1110.
