THE redevelopment of the old Camden High School site has been welcomed by Camden's business and historical groups.
AEH Group, which owns the site, is seeking council permission to construct 16 buildings, including a motel, restaurant, arts centre, medical centre, function venue, 159 housing units and a 79-bed residential care hostel.
Camden Chamber of Commerce president Miriam Roberts said the chamber worked to promote business in the area.
``The chamber supports proposals that are done in a correct and cohesive manner with the business and general community,'' she said. ``The chamber views the development of the old high school site as an opportunity for the future promotion and advancement of local business and the community generally.
``The chamber is looking forward to a presentation in the near future of the proposed development by the developer to able to ask more questions and gain more insight into this landmark development.''
Camden Historical Society president Ian Willis said the school had ``social significance'' but that there was no historical significance to the buildings on the old high school site.
