ABOUT 100 loyal supporters of amputee Sarah Hilt braved Sunday's dismal wet weather to complete a community fund-raising walk.
The Hilt family, of Theresa Park, said they felt heartened by the support of those who turned up for the 5km walk from Camden Showground to the Bicentennial Equestrian Park.
Despite the misty rain, Sarah's mother Gillian said they still managed to raise $10,000.
``We want to send a huge thanks to the supporters who came out to walk for Sarah,'' Mrs Hilt said.
``Obviously, our numbers were considerably down but there was a strong group of people who really support Sarah who came out and we can't thank them enough.
``It makes you feel so proud to be part of a community like this and it convinces you that community is an important part of life. The Macarthur Lions put on a barbecue and they really made it feel like an event.''
The money raised at the weekend brings Sarah closer to buying a $70,000 prosthetic hand that will give her individual movement in each finger.
``She's just got to have it and come hell or high water she'll get it within the next couple of months,'' said Mrs Hilt, speaking with the same determination Sarah, 24, has shown since recovering from meningococcal disease in 2004.
Sarah lost both legs, her left forearm and the fingers on her right hand. Last year she got a computerised leg which helps her to walk more freely.
