Photo competition shows off habitat destruction

07 Sep, 2011 12:00 AM
A COBBITTY resident who was incensed by the number of trees cut down in Camden has launched a photographic competition to record the "devastation and destruction".

Keriene Hutchinson said she was horrified when trees along Cobbitty Road, which were more than 100 years old, were cut down.

"Then the same thing happened on Oran Park Drive at Harrington Grove and on Camden Valley Way at Catherine Field," she said. "Trees like that are habitat trees, they take 150 years to grow."

Ms Hutchinson decided to hold a photographic competition called Camden — Paradise Lost?

Entrants must submit two photos: one that shows the landscape dotted with trees of wooded hills and the second, to be taken within the past 12 months, showing the devastation to the Cumberland Plain woodland, the loss of habitats, the appearance of multi-lane roads or coal seam gas drilling.

The photos will be exhibited at Camden Museum, October 6-9 and 13-16. Entries close 4pm on September 30. Details: jhutchinson@iprimus.com.au.
