NOAH Fenech looks like any other happy little four-year-old as he plays with his aunt, Diane Haines.
But Noah and his family are facing a long, tough road as they begin to deal with his recently diagnosed severe autism.
Noah is the first child of Ms Haines' brother Simon Fenech and his wife, Alma.
The couple have a busy schedule, with Noah's nine-month old sister, Abigail, demanding plenty of attention and a therapy schedule for Noah that is expected to cost about $1000 a week.
"He's a beautiful little boy," Ms Haines said.
"The diagnosis, when it came, was a big shock for his parents."
Ms Haines, who runs her own business in Narellan, said it was her own mother who first noticed Noah wasn't responding like most babies.
"He was Simon and Alma's first baby and they didn't really have any other experience to compare this to," she said.
"It was my mum who noticed there might be a problem when she was babysitting.
"She said Noah wasn't focusing on her and wasn't responding the way she had seen her own kids do."
Noah's subsequent diagnosis of severe autism means he has delayed development, speech and social problems.
"Simon and Alma have really thrown themselves into learning about his condition and trying to put together a therapy schedule that will get him on the right track," Ms Haines said.
"Alma has been reading a lot about it and is working with Noah at home, doing as much home therapy as she can.
"But they need to find professional therapists to work with him.
"They have been advised he will need full-time therapy initially and that will cost about $1000 a week, which nobody can afford."
Ms Haines said her business, Keen2Kleen, would be the major sponsor in a fund-raising event she has organised to help Noah and his family meet some of the costs associated with his therapy.
Money raised will go to the Noah Fenech Foundation, which Ms Haines has set up in her nephew's honour.
"We have organised a fund-raising night with United Cinemas at Narellan for Saturday, March 26," she said.
"It will be a 6pm start with finger food and drinks, then a movie.
"I'm also hoping other local businesses can get involved by donating prizes for raffles and things like that."
