It's hectic but it's fun and it helps so many

FOR 16 years, the Camden Seniors Program Committee has been putting smiles on the faces of the area's older residents with its series of outings and concerts.

Event co-ordinator Bruce Bunn, whose job it is to organise the annual festivities, said the seniors loved it but secretly so did he, despite the sometimes hectic nature of the job.

``We're just a group of people who want to do something for the older people in the area,'' Mr Bunn said.

``We're trying all the time to give something different all the time. You get a real sense of satisfaction seeing people enjoy themselves.''

The committee of 12, including Mr Bunn, who also serves as the group's treasurer, organise a spring lunch, a seniors concert, a lifestyle and leisure expo and an end-of-year Christmas lunch.

Mr Bunn said the events were either free or at a low cost, and that bookings always filled up quickly.

``We give out a questionnaire asking for any suggestions or if there are any improvements we can make but we haven't had a failure yet,'' he said proudly.

``It keeps you busy in the lead-up and it's a good feeling when it all comes together and you get to look back at the end of the day and say that all went well.''

Mr Bunn is one of the original members of the committee that was formed by Camden Council in 1993.

``The then town clerk sent me a letter asking me to join,'' Mr Bunn said.

``I was treasurer of Seniors Citizens at the time.

``Then I got involved in organising the events in 2000.

``It keeps my mind active.''

Mr Bunn said more volunteers would be welcomed.
