Help shine light on global issue

10 Mar, 2010 09:18 AM
THE Camden Advertiser is on the look-out for businesses and residents who will be taking part in this year's Earth Hour on Saturday, March 27.

Cities and towns throughout the world will turn off their lights at 8.30pm for an hour of darkness.

WWF-Australia CEO Greg Bourne said Earth Hour gave people the chance to make a strong statement that they were concerned about the environment and that they were committed to taking action.

``This year Earth Hour will focus on broader aspects of sustainability, giving everyone something to do beyond the hour of darkness,'' he said.

``We're asking people to go beyond turning off lights and make an Earth Hour resolution to start something bigger.

``Switching off your lights is a great first step, but your true environmental impact is much bigger than just your energy bill.

``Your environmental footprint is made up of things such as the food you eat, the transport and housing you choose, and the goods and services you buy.''

WWF has developed a footprint calculator that enables people to work out the size of their environmental footprint, with hints on how to reduce it.
