Former cop tried to intimidate mayor

01 Jul, 2009 05:00 AM
A FORMER police officer has pleaded guilty to using intimidation to unlawfully influence Camden Mayor Chris Patterson.

Thomas Patrick Crilly, 46, of Narellan Vale, last week entered guilty pleas to charges of intimidating Cr Patterson and to sending him 21 emails harrassing him in January and February this year.

Police facts tendered in Camden Local Court last week said Crilly had repeatedly pressed Cr Patterson for ``compensation'', alleging he had suffered hardship including the loss of his career because of a relationship with one of Cr Patterson's relatives, which had ended eight years ago.

Police said that at one meeting, Crilly had told Cr Patterson: ``I'm getting frustrated and I've got a violent temper ... get back to me with a suitable compensation amount or else.''

Police told the court they had recorded phone conversations and gathered email correspondence between Crilly and Cr Patterson.

Crilly had been a police officer for 19 years until he resigned in 2003. Last week he told the court he wanted to ``make representations on the facts''.

Magistrate Christopher O'Brien ordered a full report into Crilly's background before he reappears for sentencing on August 11.
