Fatal crash at Douglas Park

16 Mar, 2010 08:36 AM
Camden Police are urging motorists to expect significant traffic delays following a fatal crash at Douglas Park this morning.

About 7:25am, a Suzuki hatchback was travelling north on Menangle Road at Douglas Park when it collided with a Pantec truck travelling in the opposite direction.

As a result of the crash, a woman believed to be 78-years-old, who was a passenger in the Suzuki, suffered serious injuries to her hand and later died at the scene.

The driver of the car, believed to be a 79-year-old man, has been airlifted to Liverpool Hospital where he is listed as being in a serious but stable condition.

The truck driver, a 40-year-old man, escaped the crash uninjured and has been taken to Campbelltown Hospital where he will undergo mandatory blood and urine tests.

Menangle Road has been closed in both directions while officers from the Crash Investigation Unit conduct examinations of the scene.

Traffic diversions are in place with traffic north of the crash site being diverted onto Camden Road and traffic south of the crash site being diverted onto Picton Road.

A post mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of the woman's death and a report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
