BEING exposed to indigenous stories and culture will help foster a sense of belonging to this country, according to an Aboriginal author.

Monty Pryor will be at Narellan Library for the launch of the library's indigenous collection on Friday where he will perform Dreamtime stories through dance and the didgeridoo.

``It's not just a black thing,'' Pryor told the Advertiser.

``It's an us thing.

``Your kids need to know about the stories because ... what we need, to feel like we belong, is the knowledge of those stories.''

Pryor has written five books: The Binna Binna Man, Flytrap, My Girragundji, Maybe Tomorrow and Njunjul the Sun (which was was short-listed for the Children's Book of the Year Awards).

Pryor will entertain preschoolers at Narellan Library from 10am this Friday.

The official launch of the indigenous collection will start at 11am.

The collection includes CDs, DVDs, newspapers, puzzles, biographies and books covering indigenous topics.

Details: 46455039.
