MACARTHUR residents are being encouraged to dig deep for this year's Cruzin' for a Cure.
The charity car day begins at the University of Western Sydney Parramatta campus at 9.30am on November 8, and arrives at Camden Airport at 11am.
The event, held for the past six years, has raised almost $60,000 for the Peter Moore Trust of the Westmead Medical Research Foundation for brain tumour research. Cruzin' for a Cure was the dream of Peter Moore, the founder of the XW-XY Falcon Owners Club, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 1999.
He wanted to start the event in order to raise money for brain tumour research at Westmead Hospital, where he received treatment.
After Mr Moore succumbed to the tumour in 2004, his godson Steve Hemry and his stepson Adam Cawley decided to continue the event in his memory.
Mr Cawley said the event was gradually getting bigger each year.
``It's growing in small steps the main thing is getting more awareness,'' Mr Cawley said. ``We'd like to have over 150 display cars this year and a peak of about 400 people attending.''
The display cars will be on show throughout the day along with food stalls, kids' activities and plane hangar tours among other things.
