Art goes pop in a hazy time

10 Mar, 2010 09:20 AM
BRITISH lecturer Valerie Woodgate will be in Camden on Saturday to talk about pop art in the swinging '60s.

``I think it was (comedian) Robin Williams who said, `If you can remember the '60s, you weren't there','' said Nola Tegel, chairwoman of the Camden branch of the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society.

``Those of us who can't remember and anyone that's interested in the era of rock'n'roll should be at this lecture.

``Valerie Woodgate is a very skilled lecturer from Britain and has a very distinguished history in the art museums of London.

``Salvador Dali is one of her subjects as well as signs and symbols, the hidden messages of paintings and the paintings of Hieronymus Bosch so she's certainly going to be a very popular speaker.''

The lecture will be held in the Undercroft at Camden Civic Centre from 4pm. The cost of the lecture is $20 or those interested can register to become a member of the society, which has monthly lectures, for $100.

Details: Peter Claxton, 46559781.
