SYDNEY South West Area Health Service area donor co-ordinator Myra Sgorbini said everyone needed to talk about organ donation to discover the facts.
``If we talk about organ donation to just one friend, family member or colleague we can help save more lives,'' she said.
The number of organ donors across NSW rose to 69 last year from 57 in 2008. The number of transplants performed in the state also increased to 215 from 190 in 2008.
There are just 13 registered organ donors in the area health service catchment, which includes Camden.
``If we discuss organ donation with our family to get to know each other's wishes we can greatly improve upon these figures,'' Ms Sgorbini said.
``Registering as an organ and tissue donor could result in saving or improving the lives of 10 others.''
Ms Sgorbini said Australia had one of the lowest donation rates in the developed world. She said more than 1800 Australians were waiting for a transplant and 20per cent of those waiting for a heart, lung or liver would die before the transplant could be performed.
