 Mercury rises hard and fast

Mercury rises hard and fast

28 Oct, 2009 05:32 PM
BECOMING Freddie Mercury is a difficult task.

Johnny Blunt, Freddie Mercury impersonator for Queen tribute band Killer Queen, says the energy needed to perform Queen songs keeps him busy.

``His boundless amounts of energy to be able to run around for two hours was just amazing and incredibly hard to emulate,'' Blunt said.

``I work out quite a bit during the day, but trying to sound exactly like Freddie Mercury would be like trying to re-create or paint the Mona Lisa every day.

``It's impossible.''

But the band has the approval of Queen guitarist Brian May.

Blunt sings all the Queen songs in the same key as Mercury and Killer Queen performs without backing tracks or guiding vocals.

Killer Queen, Campbelltown RSL Club, Friday, November 6, 8.30pm. Tickets are $25. Details: 46251408.
