I face a dilemma. My youngest child is displaying some addictive behaviours, and I'm not quite sure what to do. His Wiggles consumption has gone far beyond recreational use, it's now a lifestyle choice that affects his entire family. Morning, noon and night he looks to the Wiggles for comfort and joy, and woe to those that would keep him from his daily dose.

Perhaps I need to stage an intervention. We can all confront him as a family, and explain how his addiction has affected us personally. I'll explain how much it hurt that his first word was ``Wiggle'', and not ``Mummy''. His brothers can explain how frustrating it is, to continue endlessly watching the Wiggles long after they've moved on to Spiderman and Star Wars.

His dad can explain how demoralising it is to have Wiggles music played on his car stereo (because a man's car deserves manly tunes).

I hope his family soul searching doesn't result in any finger pointing. Didn't I discover that the Wiggles would momentarily distract him, even as a very young baby? Didn't I use all that noise and colour to my advantage, with nary a thought for the long term? Didn't I allow the insidious infiltration of our home by all things Wiggley?

When he's hungry, there's Wiggles Weetbix. When he's hurt, there's Wiggles band-aids. When he's wet, there's Wiggles nappies. Then there's his Wiggles backpack, DVDs, toothpaste, hat, pyjamas. In short his every basic human need has been met by the Wiggles since birth. No wonder he has issues.

And now I'm taking him to the Dorothy the Dinosaur show. Added exposure to all their sidekicks is bound to have his addiction spiralling out of control. Oh the shame. I have Wiggley co-dependency issues, making me part of the problem and not part of the solution.
