THE
Twilight sequel delivers a ramped-up take on this freakishly successful franchise.
``Twi-hearts'' and ``Twi-guys'' around the world will no doubt think that this movie is ``freakin' awesome'' and one of the best films ever made.
For the rest of us, New Moon doesn't deserve that acclaim.
And the fact that this has already broken records by making $72million on opening day in the US alone is just ridiculous.
New Moon is appropriately made for fans.
Unless you have read the books, the characters do not come across as particularly interesting or likable.
While Bella (Kristen Stewart) never fails to look great, she seems to be in a constant state of sadness, but I guess that's what you get for being in a love triangle with a vampire and a werewolf.
Robert Pattinson's Edward is annoying and bland, and thankfully he is absent from much of the film.
This leaves room for Taylor Lautner's Jacob to conveniently take his shirt off on countless occasions.
This just becomes a laughable gimmick, making it even harder to take the film seriously.
The pace of the film is quite dreary, with only a handful of exciting action scenes but at least it's more exciting than the series' original.
That said, the climax in a vampire-court is well made, with Michael Sheen providing better quality acting. Here the audience is shown more of the franchise's mythology, sure to be explored in later films.
The soundtrack however, like the first, is inconsistent and at times cringe-worthy in corniness.
Taking the film for what it is, New Moon was watchable.
It will definitely reach its target audience.
